Author Interview: Erin Lisbeth

Tell us why you chose Romance and tell us a little bit about one of the books you will have at the event.

I love everything about romance. You could say I am a hopeful romantic. One of my books that I will have available at Pages and Pleasures Ottawa is titled Benefits Included. This is a millionaire and marriage of convenience romance novel. We follow Jaxon, the brooding hot millionaire who needs a wife, and Quinn, a woman who wants out of her dead-end town and job. They are in their 30s, and you can read about their unconventional marriage by grabbing a copy. This novel is also open door.

Tell us about yourself and where to find you:

Erin Lisbeth is a lover of all things romance. She is a Canadian writer who graduated with a diploma in creative writing. When she's not watching Hallmark movies and reality TV, reading or writing quirky, relatable characters, you can find her meditating, practicing yoga or on a road trip.

What’s the hardest part of being an author that readers might not realize?

It can be difficult to juggle your day job, relationships, everyday responsibilities, and take time to write consistently, as well as market your novels.

How do you handle writer’s block or creative slumps?

I love to brainstorm. I usually talk things out with my partner, daughter, or some amazing author friends that I have made.

What themes or tropes do you love exploring in your stories?

I love exploring enemies to lovers and friends to lovers. I like to challenge myself with different themes and tropes I have yet to write.

Are there any real-life love stories that have inspired your fiction?

My first novel, The Dating Debacle, follows Sofia as she writes for a magazine about the adventures in online dating. A few scenes in my book were inspired by real-life events, but they were more based on the awkward moments, bad dates, and not necessarily the falling in love aspect.

If you could get stuck in one of the world you created which one would it be and why?

Honestly, I think I designed by dream house in my novel Benefits Included, with the walk-in closet, infinity pool, and the fact that they live where it’s always sunny and warm. I wouldn’t mind being stuck in that world for a little while. 

Which of your characters do you relate to the most—and why?

I think there are parts of me in both my main characters from The Dating Debacle and Benefits Included, and it’s hard to pick just one. They both have different quirks and can be awkward at times, which I do relate to, but if I had to choose just one, I would say Quinn in Benefits Included.
